Braddock was once a thriving place, but the dominant narrative is now one of loss. Residents are aware of what used to be, and this compromises the ability to see Braddock’s strengths. Sometimes outside perspectives can frame new visions.
Excavating History artists have been invited to Braddock because Chicago is another city with an industrial past and changing economy. Our project is designed around the idea that Braddock is a place of assets as well as needs. We propose to work with local activists and artists to create projects, installations and performances in Braddock.
