“In 2021, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and embarked on the physical trauma of treatment and the emotional journey of processing my own mortality. What accompanied me was my deep gratitude to be able to process my grief as well as my joy in life through time in nature and making art. The materials were chosen to be able to decompose-- the plant fibers are softened, dyed and molded before they are arranged and hung-- using natural materials that can return to the earth but currently reflect celebration and transformation. I see myself in these pieces: a body changed and scared, an experience still being processed.”-- Kris Bespalec
