Painting and Drawing
From the series In Relation
Line, shape, and color. The way an image can create movement throughout a composition. Focusing on these elements and the human form, Christine Bespalec-Davis has developed works that celebrate and sometimes distort the female figure. The subjects in her paintings appear to question their placement and identity. Internal perceptions overlap, reflecting how relationships with our selves and with others confuse the lines between fantasy and reality.
More recent works incorporate organic and geometric shapes. These paintings and drawings reflect people and surroundings that influenced her as she explored a changing world moving from country to city. Founded in the heritage of rural Wisconsin, Christine Bespalec-Davis’s current paintings layer the geometric shapes and lines of quilts, atlas maps and the curvature of the faces of loved ones
